The legendary day everyone spoke about for weeks had finally arrived. Saturday, 9th January 2010, the day we had our very own Dimensions International College’s Annual Dinner and Dance, brought us all back to the aged trends, the audacious colours and the classic polka dots.

Held at the luxurious Changi Village Hotel, staff, lecturers, management and alumnus gathered

promptly at 6.30pm and anxiously awaited the commencement of the event. As soon as the room was filled with a myriad of funky bold patterns and groovy ‘blings’, our emcee for the day, Mr. Joseph Chan and Ms. Iris Ong gave a welcome speech.

CEO, Mr. Tan was the first to deliver an opening speech at the extraordinary event. He advised that while working and playing hard,

we should in tandem have great ambitions and sky-high aims. He also added that as a team, he’d like to see Dimensions International College increases its enrolment with more than 4000 students in the year of the tiger. Through a great start with the opening of Dimensions International College, Johore Bahru Malaysia, Mr. Tan’s heartfelt speech gave everyone present, an absolute motivation to aim beyond the skies.

Mr. Teo Chong Tee, JP, BBM, Honorary Group Chairman & Chairman of Advisory Committee, honoured the audience with a inspiring and encouraging speech. He praised the staff involved in the big Edutrust movement, while sharing his thoughts on how Dimensions International College has developed as a team and evolved as a school. He later complimented the staff for the minimal turn-over rate and the tremendous improvements of its services and facilities he’d witnessed over the years.

As soon as everyone’s head spun with determination and compliments, Mr. Tan and Mr. Teo jointly popped the champagne to officially open the Annual Dinner and Dance. The scrumptious dinner streamed in followed by the much anticipated lucky draws! Yes, it’s draw with an “S”. Usually we’d all be expecting a traditional lucky draw in which someone would draw your name from a sealed box. This time round instead of just having the conventional lucky draw, the awesome Dinner and Dance Social Team came up with something rather interesting and exciting, 'burst-the-balloon-and-find-your-luck-in-that-piece-of-paper, the balloon bash! '

While still diving in and satisfying their tummy with splendiferous food, attendees engaged themselves in several games, including the 'guess who' game. Photographs of our Management Team appeared on the screen and the retro-manians were required to make a run, up the stage and depict the person in the picture. It did sound easy though, but I guess that the individual picture back-dated into the real retro-era when everyone then looked different. So retro!

Very quickly, it was time for the award presentation ceremony. Nervous faces filled the room and hopes flew high in the air. Over the years, everyone faced ups and downs. It was no doubt that all of us till today have contributed our fair share of hard work, but the best employee of the year had got to be someone who went that extra mile, who was exceptionally hardworking and who showed added quality. She was *eh hem…* none other than Ms. Babara Low! Congratulations Babara! The long service awards and the best teacher awards were also presented.

Later that evening, Guys and Gals hit the dance floor and grooved to the music to pit against the title of Dancing King and Dancing Queen. Everyone with their snazzy outfits was feeling the funk and getting down with the boogie! The ambience turned funky and even those who didn’t dance, were moving to the beat on their seats. To create more anticipation, the titles of Dancing King and Queen were arranged to be announced in the later part of the event. One of the many special highlights of the dinner was the presentation of the special awards. Attendees were nominated for the best-dressed, youngest looking and many more. The highlights sparked endless contagious joy and laughter with its unique and intelligent award category.

The end was nearing and it was time for the grand prize to reveal itself, LUCKY DRAW GRAND PRIZE. After many seconds which seemed like a decade, a winner was picked by Mr Teo. The lucky winner walked away with a humongously awesome 42-inch plasma television! Imagine all that motion pictures in an amazing electronic-box! Okay, here it is… the 42-inch plasma television goes to… goes to… goes to… Ms. Mary!!! Congrats Mary! As the dinner was coming to an end, it was also time to announce Dimensions International College, 2009, Dancing King and Dancing Queen! The King and Queen both possessed absolute qualities. They were agile, fancy, bold, unexpected and swept everyone off the dance floors with their breathtaking moves. Congratulations to Mr. Stephen Pickles and Ms. Meimay! 2009 Dancing King and Queen were awarded with $1000 cash and 2 annual days off each! Awesome or what?

Dimensions Management would like to thank the Organising Committee and everyone who had made the event possible. Without you, there will be no Dinner and Dance as exciting as 2009 Retromania! Keep doing you thang guys, let us all look forward to an even more splendid year, with increasing enrolment, better communications and a more united team!
