Singapore is a country
constantly and actively promoting bilingual education.
Every child is provided with an opportunity to study
English and absorb Chinese culture in an education system
that has established a world-wide reputation. Though
the cost for education is competitive, the standard
is undoubtedly high. Mothers for students in the age
group of 7 to 16 are permitted to stay with their children.
There are more than 300 Government Primary and Secondary
schools for the pursuit of education in Singapore.
Every child from the age of 7 can apply for entrance
to the 6-year Primary education. Foreign students may
also apply for admission to a school from Primary One
to Primary Five level of education. Upon completion
of primary education, student will sit for the Primary
School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
Singapore Secondary education system offers a 4-year
course (Express Course/GCE “O” Level) and a 5-year course
(Normal Course/GCE “N” Level). Foreign students may
seek admission to join Secondary One to Secondary Three
levels of education. Upon completion of their Secondary
education, students will sit for the Singapore Cambridge
GCE “O” Level Examinations, to acquire a certificate
of world-wide recognition.
Foreign students wishing to seek admission to Government
Primary and Secondary Schools must sit and pass the
entrance tests for two major subjects, namely English
and Mathematics, conducted by the respective Government
Schools and it is compulsory to take the Principal Academy
Certification Test (PACT).
The normal period of entrance tests range from October
of the year till April the following year.
